Blueback
paper/variations on A2, existing books

with Leroy Meyer

For the exhibition Where The Mice Live taking place at CONVENT, artist Hans Demeulenaere invited eleven creators from various disciplines to develop new works with him around the theme of the interior. Each work is the result of an intensive collaboration, with Demeulenaere acting as the constant partner in ten distinct duos.

All participants in the exhibition, including the coordinator of Convent, selected an existing book to be included in the exhibition as an object. Each book served as a source of inspiration or ties in conceptually with the exhibition’s theme. Each book is wrapped in a newly designed cover by graphic design duo Leroy Meyer & Pia Jacques, who also present a book of their own. The covers, printed on blueback paper (poster paper), play with folds, wraps, and color contrasts between front and back.

The twelve books are presented in a bookshelf constructed from wooden elements that Demeulenaere has been producing since 2021, based on a design by American minimalist artist Donald Judd (1928–1994).
